Springfield's Favorite Family Arrives in Rocket League: But It's Not the Vehicle Fans Are Hoping For

It was previously announced that The Simpsons was teaming up with Epic Games' battle royale, but this isn't the sole destination where enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the world of Springfield. The long-running series is also making its way to the popular soccer-driving hybrid, bringing along an vehicle customization option that will also be usable in the Fortnite universe. However, whether players will actually want to equip it is another question, as fans have their hearts set on just one Springfield vehicle the community is itching to drive, and this new offering isn't that one.

What Fans Really Want

Although most players would undoubtedly love to face off while driving The Homer—the famously flawed car Homer built personally in the 1991 episode "the one where he meets Herb"—regrettably, that isn't what players are receiving. Not even getting the Canyonero, the heavy-duty vehicle featured in season 10. Rather, players will obtain the family's standard well-worn four-door, which they've been driving since 1989. Though this specific vehicle has seen better days, it stands as an iconic element of the show. And for players who pay attention to Rocket League car hitboxes, the Simpson family car uses the same hitbox as the Dominus.

More Than Just a Car

And it's not the only cosmetic from the show coming to the game. The event will also include a set of challenges to unlock more rewards, all of which are Simpsons-themed. According to a press release, the challenges will require participants to "achieve a certain number of centers and clears as there are The Simpsons seasons, collect boost pickups as if your navigation is set to the Simpson residence, and travel a specific distance worthy of acquiring the ideal pastries!"

Although the complete list of earnable items isn't yet revealed, here is what has been confirmed so far:

  • Blinky antenna topper
  • Homer's Hedges player banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

If the key art is any indication, it appears players will also receive rims featuring a television showing The Simpsons' title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and boost effects inspired by smoldering rubber and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Launch Dates and Crossover Details

This event coincides with the major The Simpsons invasion of Fortnite's island, which brings a completely new map of the fictional town, as well as a month-long seasonal progression system. The Rocket League x The Simpsons celebration begins on November 1st and ends on Nov. 17.
